Ashtanga Power Yoga is a specific sequence of asanas (postures) that flow with the steady rhythm of breath and vinyasa to create a vigorous, cardiovascular purifying practice which can be exhilarating and challenging while also serving as a moving meditation. Breath, bandhas, focus and flow are key elements of each series of Ashtanga, helping to cleanse, stretch, balance, flex and strengthen the mind-body-soul connection for a greater sense of inner peace and well being. (Intermediate/Advanced)

Beginning Yoga classes focus on basic classical yoga postures, alignment principles and breathing techniques. Newcomers to yoga should start here, or in the Restorative Yoga’ classes (see below). Beginning level is also recommended for those who may wish to strengthen the foundation of their practice, or who may simply want an ongoing practice that is in harmony with their level of flexibility.

Beginning Yoga for All Bodies is a gentle yoga class that focuses on making yoga accessible for people of all body types and skill levels.  The class is suitable for beginning and intermediate students – it’s as challenging as you need it to be.  We’ll focus on basic yoga postures, alignment principles and breathing techniques.  Beginning Yoga for All Bodies is great for people new to yoga, especially if you’ve ever said, “I could never do yoga!”  Through pose modifications and the use of various “props” this class works well for those who may have physical issues that limit their flexibility.  Expect personal attention and enthusiastic support.

Chair Yoga – Yoga is for everyone. No matter what age you are or what condition you are in, you can experience the health benefits of yoga.  Did you know you can perform most yoga postures, breathing techniques, meditation, and relaxation techniques from a chair?    You will move each of your joints in a way that will help keep your mobility and increase balance. Each session will also include different types of breath work to keep us energized and centered.    To sign-up for an individual private session, email info@peacethroughyoga.com.

Heated Core Vinyasa  – Heated Core Vinyasa Yoga is much like a regular vinyasa class, but with special attention given to the core muscles in the center of the body. This class includes Sun Salutations, standing poses, back bends, twists, inversions, as well as a series of poses dedicated to strengthening the core of the body. Within the core muscles we find our third chakra–the center of our personal power. This heated class will energize and power up that third chakra, increasing your self-worth, self-confidence, and inner strength, while also building muscle strength, opening up tightened joints, and burning calories! This class is perfect for all levels–beginners to advanced yogis. Be sure to drink plenty of water before and after class.

Kids’ Yoga Adventure (ages 6-11) benefits the mind, body and spirit, but it is also a lot of FUN!! Studies have shown that yoga for kids improves self-esteem and emotional equilibrium.  It aids their ability to self-calm while giving them a healthy outlet for energy. In addition, it increases their ability to concentrate and focus. Yoga helps children develop gross motor skills; develop core strength and increases flexibility.  It boosts the immune system and the list of how yoga can benefit your child’s development goes on!

The younger we can give our children tools to handle their emotions and exercise their bodies the better able they will be to make healthy decisions and handle life’s everyday stresses as they grow older.

Kundalini Yoga classes are a dynamic blend of postures, pranayama (breath work), mantra (words and sound), music and meditation, which teach you the art of relaxation, self-healing and elevation.  Balancing body and mind enables you to experience the clarity and beauty of your soul.

Kundalini is an intensive form of yoga, awakening the body, mind, and spirit. It focuses on the chakra system, stimulating the energy in the lower centers and moving it to the higher centers. From your very first class, you’ll experience the benefits, which include relief from back pain, stress, addiction, depression, insomnia and weight control.  Everyone can do it!

Mommy and Me Yoga:
Come with your little one and learn yoga poses through story and song. This class is designed for preschool children (3-6) and is an entertaining and fun introduction to yoga. Yoga poses are coordinated with stories, songs, and games and are sure to delight your child while building strength, flexibility, and balance along with motor planning skills and self-regulation. Adults are welcome to participate with their child.

Pranyama and Meditation:  Prana is our breath and the vital life force in our bodies. Pranayama is the relationship to our breath and teaches us to control the movement of our minds. The more we become aware of our breath, the more we are able to calm the mind and access and experience the bliss of our hearts through meditation. This class will teach us about the breath and various simple techniques to access the breath, quiet the mind and turn into the sublime radiance of our hearts. This class will also teach us how to meditate! We will review appropriate sitting postures for meditation. We will also explore what meditation is and what it is not.

Pranayama and meditation will enhance every aspect of your life. It will greatly benefit your yoga practice because more awareness of our breath expands the quality and experience of our yoga practice. But, most importantly, pranayama and meditation will significantly improve the quality of your life: the way you lead your life and the manner in which you respond to life! These practices will deepen your connection to Spirit and manifest abundant happiness and peace in your life. Think of pranayama and meditation as food for the brain that nourishes our brains to be healthy, vibrant and at ease.

Restorative Yoga   Have you ever thought, “I can’t do Yoga.  I’m not flexible and can’t twist and bend that way”?  Well, then this is the class for you!  This soothing beginner Yoga class involves a therapeutic style of Yoga taught for people who have never tried Yoga, for people living with obesity, physical ailments, high stress, and for those who enjoy meditation in motion.  In this therapeutic class, you are encouraged to work at your own pace.  You’ll learn to create a supportive environment for total physical relaxation and learn to let go of mental stress.  We’ll connect the mind, body, and spirit through awareness in the postures, breathing, meditation, and relaxation.

This conscious and compassionate practice helps us to rest and relax deeply and completely after stimulating and soothing the organs and nervous system.  Students are given personal attention as they experience an integration of yoga, restorative poses, aromatherapy, and vibrational therapy.  Students are well-supported by the use of bolsters, blankets, blocks, and other props that allow us to surrender to the poses, let go of muscular tension, and move toward a state of balance.  Enjoy how it feels to relax and let go, and leave feeling nourished and restored.

Slow Flow is a sequence of mindful movements that allows us to focus on the asanas, the flowing transitions between each pose and the breath. We hold asanas for multiple breaths to allow time for our own micro-adjustments while settling into the full expression of each pose. As we link movement with breath and seek the benefits of each pose, we relax our minds, strengthen our muscles and stretch our bodies to develop awareness, balance and flexibility both on and off the mat. While the flow of this yoga class is slower than traditional Vinyasa practices, the challenges are found in holding the poses and maintaining our focus. This class provides a safe environment for those who experience stress, lead hectic lives, desire a stronger connection to their true self, or who are looking to develop a yoga practice. This class is appropriate for beginning and regular practitioners alike.

Sunrise Yoga: What a great way to start the day!  This class is designed to revitalize your body, relax your mind, increase energy, and reduce stress.  For beginners, people with back, joint, or heart problems, or experienced students who want a slower paced, less strenous class.

Tai Chi for Health (Part 1): With roots in the martial arts and traditional Chinese medicine, Tai Chi reduces stress and increases physical strength, mobility, balance, and endurance. In addition to the physical benefits, Tai Chi balances the flow of the body’s vital energy or life force called qi– which the Chinese believe serves to prevent illness, improve general health, and extend life.

This 6 week class series will meet once a week for 75 minutes–60 minutes of instruction with 15 minutes at the end for individual questions and attention. Emphasis is on easy to learn, gentle, continuous movements that are safe and effective for beginners. But, don’t let the soft, flowing moves fool you into thinking you are not getting a workout! Sixty minutes of Tai Chi burns the same amount of calories as 60 minutes of brisk walking.

Tai Chi for Health (Part 1) is offered as a six week series only, you can’t drop-in for individual classes.  Previously purchased sets cannot be used to pay for this series.

For more information about the health and wellness benefits of Tai Chi visit www.taichieveryday.com.

Vinyasa Yoga is a flowing, dynamic and athletic form of yoga which connects the breath and postures while linking asanas/postures with flowing transitions. This dynamic version of hatha yoga is an ideal way to build strength and improve balance and flexibility. It is also beneficial for stress-reduction, relaxation and even weight loss!  This form of yoga generates heat in the body to lengthen the muscles and burn fat, and concludes with ten minutes of savansana/relaxation to allow the positive effects of the asanas to sink in.

A typical class will move from simple to complex poses, from standing poses and balancing poses, to back-bends, inversions, and hip openers. The teacher and students take this simple formula and make it their own day by day. No two classes are ever alike yet the intention behind the class is always the same. The genius of Vinyasa Yoga is not found in its approach to alignment or sequencing, but rather in the rhythm with which alignment and sequencing unfold.

Vinyasa Free Flow

Students are guided through a series of postures ranging from simple to dynamic. They are then given the opportunity to tune into the teacher within and “flow on their own” through the sequence, at a pace that works for them.  This style is more athletic and faster paced than most vinyasa classes. The class is set to music that is contemporary and upbeat. Be prepared to sweat, and move to the rhythm of your breath!  Some yoga experience suggested.
